Cycling from Dijon, France to Chalons-sur-Saône,
France
Dijon is the capital of Burgundy and the fine wines that go by this
name are mostly from the Cote d'Or, or region just to that southwest of town.
You can not
go wrong to go out of your way to visit this fine, friendly town and sample the cafes in
the center.
From Dijon, the direction was South on the D122
to join the N74 into Nuits St. Georges, all the way stopping for
degustation at the wineries lining the road. Continuing on the D20
into Beaune, it was time for a rest after all that degustation. Saw the
famous hospital here and enjoyed a meal in the center al fresco. After
that it was a bit of a struggle down to Chalons-sur-Saône on the D18
and D19.
The hostel here is a Foyer
Jeunes Travailleurs, a place for young workers from the country to live
cheaply while working in the city. Many of them are open to hostelers,
although the ambience of a hostel is sometimes missing from these
lodgings. Warn and dry though!
